HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
For jewellery to look it's best and evolve into a cherished heirloom, it needs proper care. Basic maintenance can go a long way in preserving its beauty and longevity.
CLEANING
-
To clean your jewellery, use hot soapy water and an old toothbrush. Gently scrub the piece, making sure to get the bristles under the stone, as dirt and oil can accumulate and affect the gemstone’s brilliance.
-
Depending on wear and exposure to oils, we recommend cleaning your jewellery once a month or every three months to maintain its sparkle and shine.
WEAR & CARE
-
To minimise wear and tear, it’s best to remove your rings during activities that may expose them to stress or damage, such as playing sports, lifting weights, gardening, or doing housework. Be mindful of your jewellery and avoid exposing it to sharp impacts or harsh chemicals.
-
In general, it's best to avoid harsh chemicals by removing jewellery when doing housework or cleaning. If your profession is more hands-on like a gardener or hairdresser, it's best to remove them while working.
Moreover, harsh chemicals like chlorine and bromine, commonly used in cleaning products and to treat pool and hot tub water, can gradually damage gold alloys. The most severe deterioration occurs when jewellery is exposed to chlorine bleach.
Most fine jewellery is made from a mix of pure gold and other alloys, such as nickel, copper, or zinc, to achieve different colours and added durability. Chlorine can dissolve these alloy metals, leading to stress cracks and potential breakage. Jewellery with prong-set stones are particularly vulnerable, as even a single compromised prong could result in the loss of a valuable gemstone.
-
Store your jewellery in a place that is free from humidity and extreme temperatures, as these can cause tarnishing and damage over time. Ideally, keep your pieces in a soft-lined jewellery box or pouches, which will help protect them from scratches and tangles. Make sure to separate different pieces to avoid them rubbing against each other, which can cause abrasion.

MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS
-
We recommend having your jewellery checked annually. During this visit, we'll ensure that your piece is in excellent condition and the stone settings are tight. This all helps to maintain its beauty and durability for years to come.
-
A rattling ring might be hinting that it needs attention. Give your ring a gentle shake to check for any rattling sounds—this could indicate that the stone’s setting may be loose. If you hear anything, bring it in and we’ll tighten the setting for you.
